Why High Achievers Are the Hardest on Themselves

When I launched TYS Coaching, I kept telling myself it was beginner’s luck. That the people who gave me a shot were just being nice. That it was all a fluke. Sound familiar?

It took stepping back and asking myself: Would these successful, respected professionals risk their businesses on someone who wasn’t good at what they do? Of course not. So why was I doubting myself?

Why High Achievers Struggle Most with Imposter Syndrome

✔️ Perfectionism – You set ridiculously high standards and feel like a failure when you don’t meet them.
✔️ Comparisons – No matter how well you do, you always find someone doing ‘better’.
✔️ Success Doesn’t Feel Like Enough – No matter how much you achieve, the doubt lingers.

Even Michelle Obama has spoken about Imposter Syndrome, saying age helps. I’d say it’s not just age my friend, it’s experience, self-awareness, and knowing how to call out your doubts before they take over.

How to Manage Imposter Syndrome

  1.  Recognise it for what it is – Self-doubt, not truth.

  2.  Keep a record of wins – Not just big achievements, but daily progress.

  3. Get an outside perspective – A coach, mentor, or peer can remind you of what you actually bring to the table.
